This painting is a work in progress. I'm trying to capture the dramatic differences in lighting created by the selective shade from passing clouds. The Crowsnest Pass features weather that can change in a heartbeat. As the clouds race through in this scene, the distant mountains are lit brightly while the middle distance landscape is in shadow.

The trees in the scene are dry and some are dead. It is no wonder that there can be forest files with these dead trees and deadfall around. The wind in these trees can make a ghostly sound, contributing to the eerie beauty of this rugged landscape.
